Former Assam chief minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Friday said that AASU is more important for him than the recently-formed Asom Chhatra Parishad (ACP).
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which is a part of the ruling coalition headed by BJP in the state, has formed its student wing Asom Chhatra Parishad (ACP) on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Mahanta said, “I wasn’t invited to the launch of Asom Chhatra Parishad (ACP). If I were invited, I would prefer not to attend the meeting as AASU is more important for me”, Mahanta said.
The centre rolls out red carpet for the Bangladeshi immigrants with the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Mahanta added.
He claimed that if that happens, the entire demography of Assam and North East will change irreparably.
Mahanta also said that AGP should put pressure on Centre on this issue. AGP leaders should not compromise on this issue for their self-interest.
It may be mentioned that the BJP openly gave the issue a communal tinge by setting double standards, embracing the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrant as a “refugee” and deriding the Muslim as an “infiltrator”.
