The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Golaghat unit has staged a protest in Golaghat against the shutting down of the Golaghat Engineering College (GEC) and also burnt the effigy of state education minister.
The AASU has staged the protest in front of Golaghat Deputy Commissioner’s office and seeks immediate intervention of the Chief Minister against the shutting down of the college.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed the GEC authority to shut down the institution with immediate effect on July 22 and directed GEC to distribute the students among five engineering colleges in the state while the GEC authority is gearing up for its next academic session.
92 students of the college are facing a bleak future as the AICTE has instructed to shut down the college with immediate effect.
Moreover, the AASU unit of Golaghat has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and five MLAs of Golaghat district through the deputy commissioner demanding revival of the college.
