Acid attack on Congress victory rally

Acid attack on Congress victory rally

On Monday, around 10 activists of Congress were injured in an acid attack during the victory rally of successful Congress candidates in the urban local body polls in Karnataka's Tumkur.

Reportedly, some miscreants threw acid on the Congress workers at Barline road while they were carrying out a procession to celebrate the victory of Congress. The injured were immediately sent to hospital for treatment. Police are investigating into the attack. However, no one has been arrested yet.

Results for Karnataka's Urban Local Body (ULB) elections were announced yesterday. Congress had won 954 of the 2,709 seats. BJP won 905 seats, followed by JD(S) which won 364 seats, and independent candidates won 195 seats.

The results of the Urban Local Body elections are being seen as a pointer to the performance of the coalition government of the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
