Administration not to allow Bengali Gana Samabesh

Amid all the protests administration has decided that it will not grant permission for the Bengali Gana Samabesh which was supposed to be held on November 17 in support of the Citizenship Bill.

ADGP Pallab Bhattacharjee announced the move after the massive protests which were held across Assam against the Gana Samabesh and the Bill.

It may be noted that administration's permission has yet not been sought for the Samabesh to be held at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara.

The authorities have made it clear that they will not allow any such gatherings which can hinder proper functioning of law and order.

It was on Saturday that 44 organisations under the aegis of KMSS and AJYCP came forward and held a press meet expressing their opposition and the consequences that would follow if the Gana Samabesh is to be allowed. These organisations also jointly called for a 12 hour Assam bandh on October 23 in protest against the Citizenship Bill.

The protest was basically against the BJP's decision to go ahead with the Citizenship Bill. That is also the day when the AGP is holding a massive rally in Guwahati against the Citizenship Rally.

Earlier in the week too, several organisations were also seen protesting in Tinsukia against the Samabesh.
