A delegation from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.
The delegation met PM Modi after Prez Ram Nath Kovind mentioned NRC, Citizenship Act in his addressing at the joint sitting of both the houses at the Central Hall of Parliament today.
Kovind said efforts will be made to amend the Citizenship Act while protecting linguistic, cultural and social identities.
"My government has decided to implement the process of National Register of Citizens on priority basis in areas affected by infiltration," Kovind added.
The delegation included Shri Atul Bora (President AGP), Shri Biren Baishya (MP, Rajya Sabha), Shri Keshab Mahanta and Shri Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Ministers in the Assam Government.
