The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders on Saturday criticised senior party leader and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta’s recent remarks regarding the newly formed students’ organisation by the party.
The AGP leaders today met at party president Atul Bora’s official residence in Guwahati and discussed party’s stand on the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and PK Mahanta’s remarks regarding Asom Chattra Parishad (ACP).
Following the meeting, AGP leader Kamala Kalita said, “This is nothing new. Mahanta has been opposing the party’s decisions for a long time.” Kalita further said that the party will discuss if disciplinary actions should be taken against Mahanta in the coming days.
It may be mentioned here that PK Mahanta on Friday had said that AASU is more important for him than the recently-formed ACP.
On the other hand, speaking on CAB, the party leader said that the party’s stand on CAB remains the same. He also informed that the leaders today discussed regarding the party’s general meeting on December 11.
