Agricultural Extension Officers To Be Transferred Every 3 Years: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday reviewed the functioning of the agriculture department and instructed the transfer of Agricultural Extension Officers serving over three years at one place.

The meeting was conducted in presence of Assam Agriculture and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora and other officials of the department and after discussions the Chief Minister instructed the formation of a special committee in the model of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan or National Health Mission for the overall development of agriculture landscape in the state.

The Chief Minister Sarma also directed the department to conduct a comprehensive survey of agricultural production in 3,000 village panchayats and Village Council Development Committee (VCDCs) across the state by employing students from Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati University and Dibrugarh University.

Immediate action against irregularities in fertilizers supplies has also been instructed by the Chief Minister.

Additionally, Deputy Commissioners of all districts have also been given authority to make PM-Kisan beneficiary list error-free.

Dr. Sarma also asked the department to increase the export of in-demand produces such as lemons and pumpkins.

Further, the department has been asked to take steps to procure seeds directly from the Seed Corporation of the State, which produces improved seeds, to ensure quality seed supply to the farmers of the State.
