With the declaration of HS results by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) on Saturday, the historic Cotton University (formerly Cotton College) scored a pass percentage of 94.89% in Science and 94.79% Arts, without any students securing position in either of the streams.
Notably, though students from some government institutions have made it to the list of top rankers in all of the streams, the private junior colleges have outperformed them in securing positions as well as in respect of pass percentage.
Around 549 students have appeared this year’s examination in the Science stream from Cotton and 521 have passed the examination. 420 students of Science stream passed with first division marks, while 98 students secured second division and 3 students secured third division.
Similarly in Arts stream, 164 out of total 173 students passed the examination from Cotton. Out of them 129 students secured first division, while 33 students passed in second division and 2 secured third division.
Meanwhile, several intellectuals have expressed their dissatisfaction on the performance of the prestigious institution.
