Akhil slams Centre over Dibang Project
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Thursday slammed Narendra Modi-led Central government for approving the Dibang Multipurpose Project (MPP) in Arunachal Pradesh.
Akhil claimed that the project will be harmful to the people of Assam. “The proposed 2880MW project will do a lot of harm to the people of Upper Assam. This dam will bring misery to the people of Upper Assam. If the project is stopped, it will benefit the region,” said KMSS chief.
It may be mentioned here that with a height of 278 meters, this is going to be the largest hydroelectric project to be ever constructed in India.
Akhil further said that the Centre has approved the project without proper clearance from the concerned departments. Notably, the project has every statutory clearance except for Forest Clearance (Stage-II) for seeking Investment Sanction from Govt. of India.
