Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar on Wednesday officially took charge as the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.
Laskar has been elected to Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Sonai constituency. He was the only Muslim to be elected to the assembly on a BJP ticket.
Earlier, Ratabari MLA Kripanath Mallah was in the charge of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The post became vacant after Mallah won the Lok Sabha Election from Karimganj.
Meanwhile, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated Aminul Haque Laskar on being elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. “His years of experience will further enhance the dignity of the House. My best wishes for his tenure ahead,” CM Sonowal tweeted.
