Amit Shah to contest from Gandhinagar, Advani sidelined

The BJP has announced its first list of candidates and with it a tendency of sidelining veterans has come to light. LK Advani has not made it in the list as BJP president Amit Shah will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar, the seat contesting from which Advani won by over four lakh votes in 2014.

After the announcement, Congress slammed BJP saying that they are forgetting those responsible in bringing the party to prominence.

News Agency PTI quoted Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala saying, ""First Shri Lal Krishna Advani was forcefully sent to the party's Marg Darshak Mandal, and now his parliamentary constituency has been snatched".

It may be noted that BJP had earlier stated that nobody exceeding the age limit of 75 years will get a ministerial position.

Leaving out of PM's Cabinet, LK Advani along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi were made members of a new "margdarshak mandal", which only an advisory role. However, the committee never came together in the last four years for any kind of discussions.
