Another blow to the AGP?

In yet another possible blow to AGP, the BJP high command in Delhi has hinted on possible chances of putting forth Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan for one of the Rajya Sabha from Assam.

According to sources, the national party's president Amit Shah had already intimidated the state wing about the possibility of nominating Paswan, the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), who is also an ally of the NDA, for one of the two seats from the state.

It may be noted that Congress leaders Dr Manmohan Singh and Santiuse Kujur, will retire on June and hence two seats will lie vacant. Both AGP and BJP agreed that one of the RS seats would be given to the regional party and the other will remain with the ruling.

Per contra, there are now reports of change in plans from BJP's part as it had seemingly assured Paswan the Assam seat and now it will keep the other for itself.

On Monday, leaders of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) chaired a crucial meeting at the Assam Secretariat in Dispur. The AGP leaders discussed about the two RS seats.

Notably, the Election Commission (EC) is likely to issue a notification soon for holding polls for the two seats.
