An anthrax outbreak in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has led to the deaths of two feral buffaloes. The forest department has geared up to take precautionary measures to control further spread of the disease.
A team of veterinary doctors has been deputed by the state government for the mass inoculation of livestock in the region.
The death, which occurred last week, due to Anthrax has been confirmed by the Forest department. The carcass has already been disposed as per guidelines.
Forest department issued an advisory for preventive measures to ensure that the disease doesn’t spread further.
Veterinary department has been instructed to vaccinate the domestic elephants, which has already been complied with. Entry of domestic animals into the reserve will also be restricted, wherever possible.
The opening date of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has once again postponed till further notice.
