APCC Demands PM’s Visit to Assam
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) alleged that the Central Government has not considered flood and erosion problem of Assam as the burning problem and that it has not taken the matter seriously.
Addressing a press conference at New Delhi, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and APCC President Ripun Bora said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no time to visit Assam to take stock of the worsening flood situation in the state.
Both the Congress leaders alleged that the Centre has not even the entire amount of SDRF but has only released half of the amount of Rs. 251crores.
APCC also demanded that the Prime Minister should visit the state to take stock of the situation and that the Centre should release the remaining amount of SDRF scheme.
Alleging that the state government has not provided the required amount of relief material to the flood victims, APCC demanded that the victims should immediately be provided with relief materials who are living in the relief camps.
The Congress leaders also raised the issue of National Register of Citizens’ (NRC) and opposed the government’s decision of moving to the Supreme Court seeking more time for publishing of the final NRC scheduled on July 31. They reiterated that the Supreme Court has asked the NRC authorities to publish the final NRC one year ago and moving to the top court ahead of the publishing of NRC is a conspiracy made by the government.
APCC President Ripun Bora also alleged that the BJP doesn’t want NRC to be published as they want it to publish after the amendment of the Citizenship Bill.
