Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha Demands Error-Free NRC

The Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) alleged that the constitution bench of the Supreme Court has not completed the hearing of the petition that was filed for determining the year for NRC even after four years eight months.

The ASM said that they asked the top court that the NRC should be published only after the hearing of the case in the constitution bench but the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had rejected the hearing.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati Press Club on Monday, the ASM members said that the CJI had rejected the early hearing of the petition in the constitution bench.

The ASM further alleged that the bench of the Supreme Court led by Ranjan Gogoi also misbehaved with the advocate standing on behalf of the forum. “The bench led by Gogoi had referred the petition to the Constitution bench with 70 page order but now question arises that how can the court instruct to publish the NRC without hearing the petition of the Constitution bench. Question also arise that there might be a political agenda to publish the NRC based on 1971,” the ASM member said.

The ASM also said that the non-Assamese Justices have supported the petition but it is the Assamese who has become an adversary for Assam.
