Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha Demands Error-Free NRC

The Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) alleged that the constitution benchof the Supreme Court has not completed the hearing of the petition that wasfiled for determining the year for NRC even after four years eight months.

The ASM said that they asked the top court that the NRC should bepublished only after the hearing of the case in the constitution bench but theChief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had rejected the hearing.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati Press Club on Monday, the ASMmembers said that the CJI had rejected the early hearing of the petition in theconstitution bench.

The ASM further alleged that the bench of the Supreme Court led byRanjan Gogoi also misbehaved with the advocate standing on behalf of the forum."The bench led by Gogoi had referred the petition to the Constitution benchwith 70 page order but now question arises that how can the court instruct topublish the NRC without hearing the petition of the Constitution bench. Questionalso arise that there might be a political agenda to publish the NRC based on1971," the ASM member said.

The ASM also said that the non-Assamese Justices have supported thepetition but it is the Assamese who has become an adversary for Assam.
