An interstate gang of thieves, who robbed rail passengers in AC coaches, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) last week. Assets worth over ₹10.60 lakhs was recovered from them. The gangsters have been linked with over a dozen offences in Tamil Nadu.

The three youth arrested have been identified as Nayanmuni Medhi (26), Deepjyoti Medhi (22) and Sanjay Rathi (28). The GRP team managed to narrow in on the culprits after they had robbed two women passengers near Gondia in August, this year. The team under the supervision of SP M Rajkumar had camped in Assam for 20 days and nabbed the culprits in a well planned operation.

The GPR team included head constable Deepak Dorlikar, Ravindra Saoji and others, led by PI Vikas Kanpalliwar and sub-inspector Pravin Bhimte. According to sources, police managed to track down the girlfriend of one of the robbers who led them to his whereabouts. Upon interrogation, he revealed the location of his accomplices, leading to their arrests.

The police managed to identify the robbers based on CCTV footages and reservation charts of the coaches in which they travelled, according to officials.
