The Assam government has recommended four senior IPS officers to fill in the post of next Director General of Police (DGP) ahead of the retirement of the existing DGP Kuladhar Saikia on November 30.
IPS officers namely BJ Mahanta, Mukesh Agarwal and AK Kashyap are the three of the four officers who have been selected for the post.
The UPSC is expected to take a call on this in a day or two once they decide to sit for a meeting.
According to a report, the toss-up would be primarily between Mukesh Agarwal and BJ Mahanta.
Another senior IPS officer Tapan Deka was earlier considered as a frontrunner but due to some ‘technical’ issue, he is likely to be out of consideration.
