Amidst the rejoining of eight teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Assam's Darrang district, All Assam Students Union (AASU) has moved Assam CM to intervene. The eight teachers, who were suspended for their role in attempted murder of then principal P Rajesh, rejoined after their suspension was revoked in the second week of this month.
The AASU Mangaldai subdivision unit strongly opposed it and has moved Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to urgently intervene in the academically and socially sensitive case. They have submitted a memorendum on Friday to the CM through Prabhati Thaosen, deputy commissioner of Darrang and chairman of Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC) of the school.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti's decision to revoke the suspensions of all the teachers including five who were named in the FIR, drew strong criticism form AASU leaders who expressed serious concern on the matter. They also expressed possiblity of some influential vested interests in this unexpected development just as Darrang police submitted a charge-sheet before the court for trial following investigations.
The AASU unit urged the CM to ensure removal of all teachers in a bid to revive the peaceful academic environment. A section of students have also reached PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah online expressing their grievances.
Teachers Navneet Kumar, Kaluram Meena, Madanlal Gupta were suspended on July 20, while five others-Pallabita Gogoi, Dharitri Deka, Mousumi Barua, Aparijita Goswami and Chanda Kumari, were suspended in the first week of August after two seperate enquiries.
