Notwithstanding the huge majority it got in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s poll managers of Assam BJP have now focused their attention on the bypolls.
As per reports, the bypolls for Rangapara, Ratabari, Jania and Sonari assembly seats will be held within two months.
The four legislators, who got elected to Lok Sabha in the recent parliamentary polls, resigned from the Assam Legislative Assembly membership.
BJP frontal body hasn’t decided the candidates’ list yet, however the body will hold a meeting soon to finalise candidates based strictly on their “winnability”, unwilling to take any chances.
In Jania constituency, a total of 34 candidates willing to contest the election on BJP tag, 25 candidates from Sonari, 11 candidates from Rangapara and there are 9 strong ticket contenders from Ratabari.
The BJP’s core committee will meet soon to finalise the list of candidates to be fielded in the bypolls, according to the BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjit Kumar Das.
“There are several aspirants in the four constituencies and they have applied for party ticket. We have received maximum applications from Jania,” he said, while talking to presspersons here on Monday.
