Assam BJP slams Hajela over NRC
The Assam BJP on Wednesday once again lashed out at the coordinator for the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Prateek Hajela and said that the party wants a fair NRC. “We want a fair NRC for Assam, but Hajela wants to get rid of his duties by simply completing the NRC process,” said State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass in Guwahati.
“We wanted re-verification only to ensure that not a single genuine Indian is left out of NRC or any illegal gets entry, but Hajela went forward on his own to do what he claims as re-verification of 27 per cent of the names,” added Dass.
It may be mentioned here that based on Hajela’s report, the Supreme Court had turned down a request by the Centre and Assam Government to re-verify 20 per cent names of the draft NRC, particularly in districts bordering Bangladesh.
Addressing the media, the State BJP president further informed that Union Home Minister and BJP National president Amit Shah will visit flood-affected Assam on August 10-11.
