Assam celebrates Lachit Diwas on Sunday at various parts of the State honoring the memory of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, who defeated the Mughal army on the banks of the Brahmaputra in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
Various events are being organised across the State in remembrance of the legendary warrior.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted, “The undaunted spirit of Lachit Barphukan is an inspiration for every Assamese. His valour & brilliance in war strategy are etched in golden letters in the nation’s history.”
Lachit Divas is also being celebrated at Jorhat’s Lachit Borphukan Maidam.
