Assam Covid graph has ben holding for the moment and not rising exponentially as feared to give a ray of hope even as Assam Government has started a massive rapid test at Guwahati city suspecting community transmission.

A cursory look at the last 11 days statistics clearly reveals that COVID cases are not rising exponentially that there are more released patients than the new patients keeping the overall active case graph almost flat. In fact, since June 7, there have been around 2000 active cases and it has not grown and remained more or less flat.

But things can change drastically over the next few days as Assam has started a mass surveillance program targeting 50,000 tests in 10 days in Guwahati where there has been suspicion of community transmission with 80 containment zones have been declared so far.

The results from Guwahati rapid tests are expected in the next few days and that would be crucial and the whole picture can change if there is community transmission.

Already there has been panic, partially targeted by social media traction and partially by the government action as the trader community have announced self-imposed restriction in trading time.

From now onward the Kamrup Chamber of Commerce will keep their business from 9 am to 5 p.m and they will keep it closed on Sunday.

However, post-Prime Ministerial meeting of the Chief Minister of yesterday it is clear that there will be no more lockdown and the whole fear of Guwahati city going lockdown is unfounded.

This is noteworthy that more than 98% COVID cases of Assam are asymptomatic and there is no medication or treatment needed. This has been confirmed by the Nodal officer of COVID in Assam Dr Basanta Hazarika. ” Hardly any medicines have been used and only vitamin and ORS were given,” he said adding that so far only 3 ICUs have been used so far but as on that no ICU, no ventilator or even Oxygen have been used.
