Assam flood situation improves | 24,000 still affected

Though the overall flood situation in Assam has improved, around 24,000 people are still affected in four districts across the state, said the latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.

As per the report, over 23,600 people are still affected by the flood in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Nagaon.

The report, issued on Sunday, stated that Lakhimpur is the worst affected district, with over 21,200 people reeling under flood, followed by Dhemaji.

Currently, 29 villages are inundated and 959 hectares of crop areas have been damaged, ASDMA said. Death toll in the state has reached 33, including three in landslides.

ASDMA authorities informed that they are running six relief camps and distribution centres, where 2,019 people have taken shelter.
