Assam Floods: Over 8 lakhs affected in 21 districts

Three people have lost their lives within in last 24 hours due to flood and landslide in Golaghat and Dima Hasao districts, informed Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). A total of 8,69,024 number people in 1,556 villages under 21 districts of Assam are currently affected by the flood.

The flood affected districts are: Dhemaji, Lakhimpur,Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon,Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat,Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

The ASDMA informed that River Brahmaputra is flowingabove danger level in Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Goalpara and Dhubri districts.Similarly, Burhidihing river in Dibrugarh, Desang in Sivasagar, Dhansiri inGolaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Kopili in Nagaon, Puthimari in Kamrup, BekiRiver in Barpeta, Katakhal in Hailakandi and Kushiyara in Karimganj districtsare flowing above danger levels.

7,643 people are currently taking shelters in 68 reliefcamps in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Baksa, Nalbari, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Golaghat,Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

Meanwhile, in view of the current flood situation inthe Kaziranga National Park (KNP), the district administration promulgatedSection 144 over NH-37.
