ASSAM | Ill-famed NGO Serves Midday meal!

There is a stir by Mid-Day Meal workers and public against the State government's decision to hand over the Midday meal (MDM) scheme to M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti in Dhemaji, Sivasagar and Tinsukia district.

In 2013, the Directorate of Education, Mid Day meal cell, Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi had cancelled a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti. As per DDE (East) reports, the M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti supplied Mid Day Meal in SKV, Vishwas Nagar, Delhi on 09/07/2013 which contained worms, beetles, houseflies and Human Hair and was not cooked properly, when inspected by the school level Mid Day Meal Committee.

In exercise of Clause 47 of the MoU, an opportunity was given to M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti to explain its position on the above-mentioned incident occurred on 09/07/2013 but NGO could not give a satisfactory reply. Therefore, in exercise of power conferred by clause 47 of MOU, the Directorate of Education hereby cancels the agreement with M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti and withdraw the work order awarded to M/s Ghanshyam Sewa Samiti for supply of Mid Day Meal in Govt./Govt. Aided Schools w.e.f. 23/08/2013.

Meanwhile, the State government's decision to hand over the MDM service of providing lunch to fifteen NGOs for the State-run schools has been drawing ire from the existing MDM staff in Assam.
