Several educational institutions of Assam although grabbing a position in the top 100 have fared poorly in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for the year 2019 in various categories.
Only three institutions have been able to clinch positions in the overall NIRF rankings. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), stood at the ninth rank, Tezpur University secured the 48th rank and Gauhati University has somehow managed to grab the 65th position.
In the top universities category, Tezpur University (TU) has secured the 29th position, Gauhati University (GU) in the 42nd, Dibrugarh University (DU) in the 86th and Assam University (AU) in the 97th position of the rankings.
It may be noted that TU stood at the 30th rank in 2017, climbed a rank higher in 2018 securing the 29th rank and retained it in the year 2019. But it is not the same with GU, as it is seen going downwards in ranking as in 2017 it stood at 27th rank, in 2018 at 39th and this year clinched the 42nd rank. Likewise, DU has also not made any progress as it secured 74th position in 2017, 84th position in 2018 and in the current year, 2019, has secured the 86th rank. However, AU secured the 92nd rank in 2017, progressed to the 87th rank in 2018 but fell down to 97th position in the year 2019.
However, none of the colleges of Assam has been able to grab a spot in the NIRF rankings 2019 in the Top 100 colleges of India.
On the other hand, only two institutions have been named in the Top 100 engineering institutions category. IITG has stood at the 7th rank and National Institute of Technology Silchar (NITS) has grabbed the 51th rank.
Further, in the pharmacy category, Dibrugarh University has slated its name at the 28th rank and Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science has grabbed the 72nd rank.
