Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday spoke to his counterpart in Mizoram Zoramthanga on the phone to discuss the violent strife that occurred on Saturday at the state borders.

The chief ministers reached out to resolve the border dispute issues amicably. Taking it to twitter, Sonowal said, "We agreed to maintain the law and order situation of the area so that peace returns immediately," adding," We resolve to work together for maintaining brotherhood between both the states".

Responding to Sonowal, Zoramthanga appreciated the approach of Sonowal and said, "Noble, much awaited approach from a great leader. May this kind intervention brought peace to the region and strengthen our bonds".

Both the governments also briefed the centre on the controlled situation of Kolasib district of Mizoram and Cachar district of Assam where a clash broke out injuring many over a COVID-19 testing centre that was set up by Mizoram within the territory claimed by Assam to test Mizoram-bound truckers. At least 20 houses and shops were set ablaze.

According to an NDTV report, a meeting will be chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla between both the states on Monday to review the situation, Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana said. Chief secretaries of the two states will be present as well in the meeting, it added.
