Assam Nurses’ protest disrupts work at hospitals

The indefinite strike of the nurses steps in day two. All Assam Nurses' Association (AANA) had started an indefinite strike from Monday (November 26). The protest of the nurses disrupted work at hospitals in Assam severely.

However, Health Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Health & Family welfare (State) Pijush Hazarika are busy in campaigning for panchayat polls.

Reportedly, on Tuesday, Pijush Hazarika called a meeting with the protesters to solve their problems, after-which the representative body of AANA visited the office of Pijush Hazarika. But, at the last moment the minister had cancelled his appointment with AANA's representative body.

The members of AANA have staged protest in the premises of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) and Bongaigaon civil hospital.

AANA has demanded to amend the anomalies of the salary structure published in the ROP of the 7th pay commission, revive the designation of the staff nurse, implementation of 'same post same salary' and publishing of service rule of the staff nurse.

The nurses have been urging the State government to resolve the anomalies related to grade pay, abolition of the designation of the staff nurses including the service rules. Despite their extended pleas, the nurses have been getting negligence from the Government.

It may be mentioned that AANA had staged several strikes in support of their demands. But, permanent solution did not come; therefore they have started the indefinite strike in protest against the alleged betrayal made to the staff nurses by the State government.
