The Panchayat elections in Assam will be held in the first half of January 2019, the state election commission informed.
The election notification will be issued once the Durga puja celebrations are over in the State. So the notification is likely to be issues within this month of October.
The election commission has decided to conduct the elections in three phases in the month of January next year.
The elections will be held under the new Panchayat Act, the state election committee stated.
The decision comes following an order from the High Court that has asked the respective authorities to complete the election procedure before January 15, 2019.
