The NEEPCO issued a fresh alert about water release from the KopiliHydro Electric Plant in Dima Hasao District, triggering panic among theresidents living along the Kapili river banks.
Neepco is ready to open its gates if the capacity of the reservoirs cross their limits. Due to incessant rain in the upper catchment, the reservoirs were almost filled up in no time.
Neepco clarified that the dam cannot absorb the water beyond itscapacity at any point of time and rather, it contributes to flood moderation.So the release of water from the dam is mandatory.
