Assam woman allegedly thrashed by Gurugram police

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday sent a notice to the Gurugram Police Commissoner for allegedly detaining a woman, who hails from Assam, and stripping and thrashing her by police personnel. The victim was working as a domestic help in Gurugram and was picked up by the police in connection to a theft.

It may be mentioned here that the incident came to light when some North-East organisations got to know of her ordeal and they protested in front of the police station demanding action against the erring police personnel.

The NHRC said that the Gurugram police chief has initiated a departmental probe into the incident and sent four police personnel including the SHO to the police line. The NHRC has issued a notice to the Gurgaon police commissioner, seeking a detailed report, along with action taken against the guilty police personnel, in four weeks.

According to reports, the woman was working as a domestic help in a house located in DLF Phase -I in Gurugram.
