An Australian tourist on 15-day tour to India fell to his death from a hotel in Guwahati, Assam on Saturday.
William Marinus Hoogervorst, 67, fell from the third floor of Hotel Lilawati Grand in Panbazar area of the city at around 11.20 PM on Saturday.
“Four Australians and an Indian, including William, were staying in our hotel. They checked in around 3 p.m. on Saturday after returning from Shillong,” said a hotel staff.
The hotel management said they partied on Saturday night and when the party was over, Hoogervorst came out of the room and accidentally fell down through an emergency exit of the hotel.
Police said that a case of unnatural death was registered and an investigation launched to find out the circumstances leading to his death.
