Bengalis being pushed out of Assam: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today alleged that through NRC Bengalis are being pushed out of Assam. Mamata has termed the Assam NRC as a "botched-up process"

Trinamool Congress had hit out at Centre for allegedlytrying to drive out Bengalis from Assam West Bengal Chief Minister MamataBanerjee on Saturday said that the whole National Register of Citizens (NRC) inAssam has exposed those who tried to take political mileage out of it. Shefurther said that the people behind the NRC have a lot to answer to the nation.

Taking to Twitter, Mamata Banerjee said, "The NRC fiascohas exposed all those who tried to take political mileage out of it. They havea lot to answer to the nation."

She further said that the NRC fiasco happens when an act is"guided by an ulterior motive rather than the good of the society and thelarger interest of the nation".

Terming the Assam NRC as a "botched-up process",Mamata Banerjee said, "My heart goes out to all those, especially thelarge number of Bengali speaking brothers and sisters, who are made tosuffer."

The NRC fiasco has exposed all those who tried to takepolitical mileage out of it. They have a lot to answer to the nation.

This is what happens when an act is guided by an ulteriormotive rather than the good of the society and the larger interest of thenation.

Mamata Banerjee also expressed concern over 19.07 lakhpeople being left out of the final NRC list and said, "People have beenrendered homeless in their own country", senior TMC leader Firhad Hakimsaid.

TMC has been one of the most voracious critics of thecitizens' register and had accused BJP governments both at the Centre and inAssam of trying to drive out Bengalis from the northeastern state.

Last year after the draft NRC list was released, MamataBanerjee had gone all out to oppose it and had even sent a TMC delegation toAssam to talk to the people.

"It is a plot to drive out Bengalis from Assam. How canthe government be so insensitive that on one fine morning it is declaringcitizens, who have been living in Assam for the last several decades, asforeigners," the TMC leader said.
