West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today alleged that through NRC Bengalis are being pushed out of Assam. Mamata has termed the Assam NRC as a “botched-up process”

Trinamool Congress had hit out at Centre for allegedly trying to drive out Bengalis from Assam West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the whole National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has exposed those who tried to take political mileage out of it. She further said that the people behind the NRC have a lot to answer to the nation.

Taking to Twitter, Mamata Banerjee said, “The NRC fiasco has exposed all those who tried to take political mileage out of it. They have a lot to answer to the nation.”

She further said that the NRC fiasco happens when an act is “guided by an ulterior motive rather than the good of the society and the larger interest of the nation”.

Terming the Assam NRC as a “botched-up process”, Mamata Banerjee said, “My heart goes out to all those, especially the large number of Bengali speaking brothers and sisters, who are made to suffer.”

The NRC fiasco has exposed all those who tried to take political mileage out of it. They have a lot to answer to the nation.

This is what happens when an act is guided by an ulterior motive rather than the good of the society and the larger interest of the nation.

Mamata Banerjee also expressed concern over 19.07 lakh people being left out of the final NRC list and said, “People have been rendered homeless in their own country”, senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim said.

TMC has been one of the most voracious critics of the citizens’ register and had accused BJP governments both at the Centre and in Assam of trying to drive out Bengalis from the northeastern state.

Last year after the draft NRC list was released, Mamata Banerjee had gone all out to oppose it and had even sent a TMC delegation to Assam to talk to the people.

“It is a plot to drive out Bengalis from Assam. How can the government be so insensitive that on one fine morning it is declaring citizens, who have been living in Assam for the last several decades, as foreigners,” the TMC leader said.
