Even though no official announcements have been made, BJP is most likely to field a candidate belonging to Gorkha or tea tribe community for Tezpur seat.
Besides Himanta Biswa, Ritu Baran Sarmah, Ashok Bhattrai, R P Sarmah, Rajen Borthakur, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Pallab Lochan Das and Kishore Upadhyaya names were also listed in the list.
As per reports, many Gorkha leaders including Prem Tamang has been putting pressure on the party to nominate R P Sharma as LS ticket contender for Tezpur.
Though Himanta Biswa Sarma was likely to be the BJP candidate from Tezpur, there are reports that he may not contest the election as per advice of the party’s central leadership.
For Nagaon, the party is likely to field either Rajen Gohain’s wife Rita or Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarma.
The names for eight seats were finalised at the meeting of the party’s central election committee with state leaders in New Delhi on Saturday night. The BJP is still seen in dilemma over the two seats, Nagaon and Tezpur.
