BJP has made an attempt to divide Assam through the much speculated Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. In a controversial statement, MP and Mahila Congress President Sushmita Deb has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a move to divide the state through the proposed Bill.
Significantly, Deb who had been projecting soft corner towards the Citizenship Amendment Bill has suddenly gone onto saying that Modi is trying to apply different strategies in Brahmaputra Valley and in Barak Valley in an attempt to divide Assam.
During a press conference, Deb said that the amendment Bill is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. She has also pointed out that the Congress has put this issue in front of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
All India Congress Committee (AICC) held a meeting on Tuesday in New delhi after which many Congress leaders were seen changing course. Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Wednesday said that the Citizenship Amendment Bill is unconstitutional.
