BJP worker shot at WB

Someunidentified miscreants have shot a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker todeath on Sunday night at Bhatapara in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.The incident took place days after the Lok Sabha election results were declaredon May 23 which saw that BJP making gains in the Trinamool Congress-led stateof Mamata Banerjee.

The deceasedhas been identified as 24-year old Chandan Shaw who was shot dead by a group ofassailants at Kankinara Satadal playground where security has been stepped upin the area.

During theLok Sabha elections in West Bengal which was held in seven phases, it haswitnessed clashes between the Trinamool and BJP workers in each phase ofelection. It has also been witnessed that during the BJP President Amit Shah'sroadshow in Kolkata, violence broke down and the 200-year statue of IshwarChandra Vidyasagar has been vandalized at the iconic Presidency College duringthe clashes between the Trinamool and BJP workers.

With thedeclaration of results of Lok Sabha election which saw the BJP tally going upfrom two of 2014 to 18, incidents of violence were reported from Bankura, CoochBehar and other districts of West Bengal. The Trinamool workers, however,blamed the BJP but the later denied any responsibility for the violence.
