Several people are reported missing after a boat had capsized in Pasuvullanka village in east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday evening. About 26 persons have been rescued.
The incident occurred when the country boat carrying more than 30 people, which were mostly school students, overturned after hitting a pillar of an under construction bridge.
Rescue operation carried out by teams of National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Fire and Revenue Service Personnel resumed on Sunday morning. A team of Naval scuba divers from Vizag had also joined the operations.
Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu had directed the district officials to take all necessary measures to speed up rescue operations.
The operation had been supervised by Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa and District Collector Karthikeya Mishra.
