Bribery: NRC official caught red-handed

The vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths on Thursday caught two NRC employees from NRC Seva Kendra in Ganeshguri "red-handed" while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman for NRC related matter.

The accused have been identified as NRC Field Level Officer Syed Shahjahan and local Asst. citizen registrar Rahul Parashar.

The accused was accepting the bribe amount from complainant Mrs. Kajari Ghosh Dutta of Ananda Nagar PS Dispur, Guwahati. The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. One another FIR named accused Sri Rahul Parasar (age 27 yrs), Asstt Local Registrar of Citizen Registration (LRCR) of same NRC Sewa Kendra was also arrested who was found involved in the crime. Connected documents have also been seized by the ACB team from the office of the NRC Sewa Kendra.

  1. The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for entering the name of the complainant in the draft NRC. The accused had highlighted some technical defects in her application and demanded her the bribe to correct the technical defects and enter her name thereafter into the final draft of NRC. Today the complainant was to pay the Bribe amount.
  2. Thus the complainant had approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and a Trap was laid down as per standard procedure in matter of ACB PS Case No. 09/2019 u/s 7(a) of PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018).
  3. The accused Public Servants have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow morning. Due procedures are observed.
