Bridge collapses in Mumbai’s Andheri, five injured

A section of the Andheri West Bridge in Mumbai collapsed at around 7:30 am on Tuesday following heavy rains in the city, leaving five people injured and two in critical condition.

The collapsed portion was on the southern end of the station between platform numbers 7 and 8, and it ripped off overhead wires and damaged tracks and the platform roof, which has paralyzed the transportation system of the area.

The Gokahle bridge, which connects Andheri East and West stations, is used by thousands of commuters per day, and was reportedly in need of repairs and the upkeep done in the past was substandard in nature.

The Fire department reached the scene to assist relief operations. A National Disaster Response Force Team is also assessing and managing the situation.
