BSF official, wife declared foreigners: Jorhat FT orders arrest

The Jorhat Foreigners’ Tribunal has ordered Assam Police to arrest BSF official Muzibur Rahman and his wife, who were declared foreigners on Friday. The development came just days before the final publication of the NRC list in Assam.

Rahman is a resident of Udaypur-Mikipatty in Golaghat district and is currently posted in Punjab as part of the 144 battalion. According to sources, he and his wife were initially marked as “doubtful voters” by NRC authorities and referred to the Jorhat tribunal.

According to reports, the official had learnt about the judgement only when came home on leave last week. It has also come to light that Rahman has moved the Gauhati High Court against the FT’s judgement.

Earlier, a retired army soldier Mohammed Sanaullah was also declared a foreigner by a Guwahati tribunal and had been sent to detention camp in Goalpara. Although, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to Sanaullah, he is still fighting the case in court.
