Budget 2020: Tarun Gogoi lists unfulfilled promises

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has alleged that the BJP-led NDA government made false promises in its previous budgets to win votes and noted that perusal of promises made by the party in its earlier budget highlights its tendency to "lie and cheat voters".

"It has been their practice to deceive and mislead the public withfalse promises which they have neither the intention nor any plan to fulfil publicdemands," Gogoi said in a statement.

He said that the BJP promised financial support to Assam paper mills, but "it did nothing about it when it again came to power in 2019", Gogoi added.

"Tell me, what had been done by BJP government for Assam in the last 6 years", Gogoi asked.

He also added that the new bridges on the Brahmaputra River got the nod from centre during Congress regime. But, the existing government hasn't allotted funds for the proposed projects.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturdayannounced Sivasagar is one of the archaeological sites which would be developedas the iconic locations among five sites in the country. She said this whileplacing the budget in the ongoing budget session in the parliament.

They promised that Sivasagar would be developed as the iconiclocations among five sites in the country. But, they will do nothing. It's apromise only, Gogoi added.
