Budget session of Parliament begins today; Congress to oppose CAB

The budget session of Parliament begins today. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint sitting of both the Houses in Central Hall at 11 AM. The session will conclude on the February 13. The Budget will be presented on Friday.

Narendra Modi-led BJP government will try to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in this session of Parliament. Earlier, the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with the help of NDA's majority in the lower house. NDA's overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha helped the government pass the bill in the winter session of the Parliament.

Meanwhile, speaking to media after meetings with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, the party in-charge for Assam, Harish Rawat said that the Congress will issue a three-line whip to its members of Rajya Sabha to vote against the citizenship bill.

Earlier on Wednesday, a delegation of Assam Congress, including party State president Ripun Bora and leader of Congress legislature party Debabrata Saikia met party chief Rahul Gandhi and asked him to ensure that the CAB is not passed in Rajya Sabha.
