The BJP-led Central government on Thursday night formally circulated the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 among the members of Parliament.
BJP on Friday issued whip to its MPs, both in Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, to be present on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
The Bill is now scheduled to be tabled in Lok Sabha on December 9 and taken up for passage on December 10. Thereafter, the Bill will go to Rajya Sabha for discussion and passage. All BJP MPs have been issued whips to be present in the House on December 9-11, sources said.
Slamming the Centre over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, expected to be tabled on December 9, and its proposal for pan India NRC, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday (December 6) said both were against the basic principles of the Indian Constitution.
Trinamool Congress said it has issued a whip to its MPs for four days from Monday to Thursday in both Houses of Parliament in anticipation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill being introduced by the government, its national spokesperson Derek O’Brien said.
