CAB protest begins; Akhil arrested

The City Police have arrested Akhil Gogoi on Friday when he was protesting near DC Kamrup (M) office against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).

"We were peacefully protesting here… However, the police administration has arrested me in the most undemocratic manner," Gogoi said.

To create awareness against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi in collaboration with 70 regional organizations launched a movement-cum-awareness drive on Friday.

KMSS affirmed that any attempt made by the union or state government to impose any Autocratic rule on the indigenous people would not be accepted.

"I once again appeal to the people to unite against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and protest against the undemocratic move" : Akhil said.

People came out en masse on the street to protest against the Bill as there was a possibility of it being placed in the parliament by December. KMSS would create awareness to the common people about the ill effect of the Bill.

KMSS has proposed to launch a movement to create awareness against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 starting October 11, 2019 in the state marking the beginning of the awareness drive against CAB.

"Assam will be 'worst affected' by the CAB"; Akhil said.

The Bill aims to amend the 1955 Citizenship Act to providecitizenship to persecuted religious minorities including Hindus and barringMuslims in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
