Amid protest all around Assam against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, former MLA and Hailakandi District Congress Committee president, Rahul Roy has resigned from Congress. Roy Submitted his resignation letter to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Saturday.
Rahul Roy is the son of former Congress (Member of Legislative Assembly) MLA and Minister in Tarun Gogoi's ministry Gautam Roy.
It is to me mentioned that, Congress have been vocal and opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 along with other organization of Assam. However at the Barak valley few Congress leaders have been supporting the Bill.
The resignation of Roy in support of the bill after APCC announced a series of programmers till January 31 across Assam to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill have has sparked controversy.
