The locals of Chandrapur along with different parties and organizations have called for a 12-hour bandh in the area on Wednesday from 5 AM to 5 PM in protest against GMC who have decided to shift the Boragaon dumping ground to Chandrapur.

The communication has been interrupted in the area and business establishments have been closed down from Birkuchi to Govardhan market.

It may be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to shift the dumping ground of Boragaon to Chandrapur. Following the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the GMC has decided to shift the dumping ground from the present location to the Chandrapur area.

However, it would not be known as dumping ground, rather the government will build a Solid Waste Extraction Project in Chandrapur. The project will be ready within 3 years, informed GMC authorities.
