Former Union Minister P Chidambaram will be produced before a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court on Thursday after he was grilled overnight at CBI headquarters, where he was taken after officials forced entry into his home by scaling the walls of his residence.
Chidambaram will be produced before the specialcourt where the probe agency is likely to push for custodial interrogation. Accordingto source, "The CBI will push for at least three days of custodialinterrogation. Chidambaram's lawyer will now argue for his bail plea before theSupreme Court of India on Friday. If the top court developments are in hisfavour and the court agrees then he will be out on bail, else if the CBI courtagrees to extend custody, then Chidambaram will remain in CBI lock-up."
Sources also said that his interrogation startedthis morning and went on for three hours. Later, while he will be taken to thespecial court, the CBI will reportedly ask for maximum custody, 14 days for hisinterrogation.
Chidambaram, was accused of facilitating foreigninvestment into a television company, INX Media in 2007 during his tenure as afinance minister at the instance of his son Karti Chidambaram, who allegedlyreceived kickbacks. Sources say that he will be confronted with files of theForeign Investment Promotion Board, which P Chidambaram headed as Minister.
