The Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, on Friday wrote a letter to the Centre and recommended Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as his successor. Justice SA Bobde is the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court.
According to reports, CJI Gogoi wrote the letter to the Ministry of Law and Justice recommending Justice Bobde to be the next Chief Justice.
CJI Gogoi, who took oath on October 3, 2018, will retire from the office on November 17.
Justice Bobde, who is a former Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is likely to take oath as 47th CJI on November 18.
