CJI Gogoi to Settle Down in Guwahati after Retirement

The Protocol Committee of the Gauhati High Court states that Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi is likely to settle down in Guwahati after retirement.

"It is a matter of great honour and privilege for this High court that an Advocate, who had practiced here, has been elevated to the highest office of the Judiciary in the country…." the committee said.

As CJI Gogoi's retirement nears, the Gauhati High Court extends the services of a dedicated Private Secretary, peon and a chauffeur-driven vehicle to CJI Gogoi after his retirement. The resolution was passed by the full Court pursuant to the proposal made by the Protocol Committee of the High Court.

Thus, considering the "unique accomplishment of HisLordship", the Protocol Committee proposed to extend facilities to JusticeGogoi as an "institutional courtesy".

Gogoi is likely to deliver at least five judgements in less than 10 working days before he retires on November 17, sources said. These judgements include the Ayodhya land dispute case. The Constitution Bench, led by CJI Gogoi, is expected to deliver its verdict in the cross-appeals filed by Hindu and Muslim parties seeking ownership of the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
