Amid the ongoing probe into the APSC bribery scam, few politically influential groups of Barak Valley are keeping an eye on the properties of the prime accused of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) multi-crore cash-for-job scam, Rakesh Paul.
Reportedly, a faction had tried to manage several senior police officials but failed. Reports also added that another faction (a close aide of Paul) has invested a huge amount of black money in different companies.
Allegedly, an Ex. Minister-cum-powerful politician and a famous businessman of Barak valley have been trying to occupy the properties.
It may be mentioned that the CBI has been able to scoop out 90% of the list of properties owned by ex-chairman of APSC and his close relatives to the tune of several crores, which did not come into the ambit of other investigating agencies earlier while probing the scam.
During the course of the investigation, it has been found that Rakesh Paul bought around 22 properties including several flats both in posh areas of Guwahati and Kolkata worth around Rs 150 crore while serving as the chairman of APSC. Most of the properties were named under Rakesh Paul, his wife Sunanda Paul and his brother Rajib Paul.
